Chinati Ixtlan Land and Cultural Conservancy’s Development Priorities
Establishing scope of work, the Conservancy’s Comprehensive Plan for FY 2017-2023 addresses the priorities listed below.
BUILDING/ CONSTRUCTION PRIORITIES
PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT – PHASE I (2013-2018)
Construction Priority #1 – Site Preparation
Installation of Basic Amenities include:
- Road Access Improvements – Road access from public road to Chinati Ixtlan site requires leveling, grading, all weather surfacing; top surface width of 12 feet minimum with a 35-ft radius turn around and 60 ft T-shaped parking area
- Water Source Development – well drilling, lining and casing; plumbing at well head; trenching; and setting in place a storage tank with pressure gauge and pump
- Utilities – electricity, phone/internet and security system
- Septic System Installation –drilling, trenching, placing storage tank and lines
Construction Priority #2 – Eco- and Historic-Tourism Camp Grounds
- Tent-Recreational Vehicle Lots
- Kitchen-Dining Area
- Showers and Restrooms
- Hike and Bike Trails
Construction Priority #3 – Agriculture and Wild Animal Rehabilitation Facilities
- Barn and Farm Shed(s)
- Permanent Outdoor Animal Rehab Cages and Runs
PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT – PHASE II (2018-2021)
Construction Priority #4- Conservancy Education Center
- Assembly Hall – in the round for indoor ceremonies and large for lectures
- Student and Staff Living Quarters – includes rooms for guests/visiting trainers
- Classroom Facilities

Program Priority #1 – Para-Professional Immersion Coursework/Certification in:
- Desert Ecology/Dry Land Farming
- Natural Construction/Sustainable Building
- Wildlife Rescue/Rehabilitation
- Family Health Care Provision
Program Priority #2 – Community Outreach Services
- Eco- and Historic Tourism – public camp sites/annotated foot/bike trails
- Wild Animal Sanctuary – temporary rescue/rehabilitation for injured birds/animals
- Food Pantry Assistance
- School and Youth Group Activities
- Public Relations – onsite tours of land and Education Center’s historic display area(s); newsletter; civic group presentations; participation in media events
Program Priority #3 – Life Enrichment Services
- Indigenous Cultural/Spiritual Arts Events – traditional story telling; crafts; elder wisdom/leadership structure and pedagogy
- Nutrition and Native American Cooking Classes
- Tribally-Sensitive Mental Health Counseling
